On April 6, 2023, the Texas Historic Tree Coalition Board of Trustees approved the historic tree nomination of the Grove at Moore Park in Dallas. Located on the south side of Cedar Creek, just west of the Trinity River, the Park was one of the largest designated to serve the Black communities.

Established in 1938, the Grove contains majestic Pecan, Bur Oak, and Bois d’arc trees, many of which were already mature at the time. The local community has gathered at Moore Park for decades to listen to concerts played under the Grove’s canopy, watch organized baseball leagues while sitting in the shade, and celebrate holidays, as well as special occasions.

The trees within Moore Park Grove are living witnesses to the history of this park and the communities and athletes it has served and continues to serve to this day.

See more on YouTube and join us in Moore Park on Texas Arbor Day, Friday, November 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. for the recognition ceremony of these stately trees.
